BIRDFISH WOMAN

1. What’s your background?

I am a professor of Fine Arts, specialized in Sculpture, graduated from the prestigious Prilidiano Pueyrredon University in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I have been working in my atelier in Buenos Aires since 1980 and I participate in exhibitions and art fairs. My monumental sculptures are located in public spaces. I give lectures and have taught and been part of juries.
In 2012 I created the Lucy Mattos Museum, of which I am its director.
I continue to make sculptures, art videos and artistic jewelry with great passion.

2. What does your work aim to say?

My works convey themes related to feelings. I aspire for each viewer to "feel" something that leave him thinking, only in this way I consider that the work to becomes "art".

3. How does your work comment on current social or political issues?

I deal with love, heartbreak and the strength of women, social issues that must be questioned from the perspective of my artworks, especially those referring to the historical condition of Women in the society in which we live.

4. Who are your biggest influences?

In my sculptures I am influenced by the masters Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso and something by Salvador Dalí. I feel great admiration for Major Master Michelangelo Buonarroti.

5. How has your art evolved over the years?

I have started being abstract but when I realized that this modality did not connect me with all people -whether they have knowledge of art or not- I changed towards a new form, a neofiguration, especially in my installations.

6. What does art mean to you?

Art is for me one more language to express my feelings, my convictions, my desires, with a lot of passion and enjoyment in the continuous work.

7. What’s the most valuable piece of art to you?

It is one of the last ones I have made: a sculptural group with 7 figures 1.80 meters high that allude to gender violence. I also highly value my "Gender Strength" video art presented at Biennale Firenze Biennale 2021, Italy.

8. What’s next for you in the future?

I believe that in the future my work will be venturing into new virtual technologies and the making of new art videos.
