1. What’s your background?

I was born in 1960 at Hsin-chu city. When I studied in high school, artist maestro Mr. Ru Song, Xiao praised me as “a genius ever seen in forty years.” I was admitted in the entrance examination of National Taiwan Academy of Art. But at that time, Taiwan society still deemed a painters’ career as unpromising, so I chose to turn down the opportunity and enlisted myself in military service. After I left army, I started my career in advertising industry. Then I was promoted from designer, art director, producer to creative director throughout my career. In 2010, when I was 50, I picked up my paintbrush again and became a self-taught artist. Since 2013, my oil paintings were selected for the Art Mirai International Art Exhibition at National Art Center in Tokyo, the annual exhibition of Royal West of England Academy, and the Salon d'Automne in Paris. My ceramic works were selected for the Zijin Art Ceramic Award in China and I became a formal member of the Societe du Salon d'Automne. I also received recognition by National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. In addition, my “Wu Shan Yun Yu”installation works were showcased at the Florence Biennale 2017 and awarded fifth place for videos and won the Lorenzo Ⅱ Magnifico Art Prize. My creative dance project was selected for Songshan Cultural and Creative Park New Points on Stage. In 2018, my works were selected for the Société des Artistes Indépendants and Société des Artistes Français and exhibited at Le Grand Palais in Paris. In 2019, I won 1st, 3rd, 4th place awards of American Art Awards, the third prize in the installation art of the Florence Biennale, and International Prize BOTTICELLI, Solo exhibition at the Louvre Carrousel Art Shopping and so on.

2. What does your work aim to say?

This world is full of various dual forces, such as yang and yin, righteousness and evil, lightness and darkness, beauty and ugliness, Buddha and demons, destiny and destiny, etc. The two are relative, complementary, and integrated. Mr. Daisaku Ikeda, president of the Soka Gakkai International, said: "Once the sun rises, everything on the earth gains energy. Similarly, as long as one becomes the sun, the light will illuminate the surroundings." "As long as a person lives, he will inevitably have distress." "To live is to fight fiercely with destiny. If you overcome destiny, you will be happy." Life is a sea of bitterness and black and white. Only the life that is overcome is color.

3. How does your work comment on current social or political issues?

I have no comments on these. Because there are too many negative things in this world, and I need to create more new and beautiful art to deliver positive energy.

4. Who are your biggest influences?

The person who has influenced me the most is Mr. Daisaku Ikeda (from Tokyo, Japan, President of the Soka Gakkai International, Honorary President of the Soka Gakkai of Japan, a famous philosopher, religiousist, writer, photographer, and the title of "World Poet Laureate" ), he is not a master of art, but his guidance always inspires me to keep digging the treasures in my heart instead of seeking answers outwards.

5. How has your art evolved over the years?

The track of my creation ●2010 Oil Painting Series of Needles in Time: German playwright Brecht said: "Don't sigh for the years that have passed away, you must face up to the time that rushes away." So I hide the hour, minute, and second hands. The time can then be paused, fast forwarded, and shifted. ●2013 Universe Time Oil Painting Series: Human beings have always had an illusion about outer space since ancient times. If you can see the scene of outer space with the naked eye if you are on the earth, that is a beautiful dream. Entering the universe is so expensive and unattainable, it is better to bring the universe to your eyes. ●2012 Time Journey Oil Painting Series: I think travel is the pursuit of a good time. Through each trip, I enrich my life, and at the same time achieve the transformation of mood through the transformation of time and space. In this series, I use my nails to paint, turning world-renowned scenes into time trajectories, and my unforgettable memories! ●2014 Time Baby Oil Painting Series: Everything from the moment of birth, I see that every life has an expression of time; it is around our lives, whether it is a small flower by the roadside or a little life just born is smiling at you ! ●2015 Time Realm Oil Painting Series: The creation takes time as the protagonist, transforming into children of all shapes, comparing to Nezha's rebirth, and wanting to change the environment, or if it pretends to be happy in space, or become driftwood, fearless in strong winds and waves Posture, I hope to learn time without losing, enterprising, optimistic, and broad time realm! ●2016 self-painting oil painting series: Go beyond your habit of thinking and creation, put aside what you are good at and accustomed to, try to paint with intuition, without being restricted by colors and lines. The purposelessness of Xinmei painting is to open up new possibilities of expression through the subversion of colors and shapes! ●2017-2020 crease oil painting installation: crease is one of the codes of the universe, such as the accumulation of energy before the Big Bang, the extrusion of the earth's plates, the texture of the mountains, the birth of animals and plants, the structure of the human brain, the inner surface of the organs, The hotbeds of life for both sexes are all related to wrinkles. "Wrinkle" is not only the knot and release of lust, but also the memory curve of good times. ●2021 Wrinkle Calligraphy Series: Wrinkle, derived from the dual interaction of Yin and Yang, is used in calligraphy to refer to the interaction between ink and paper. When the ink is on the uneven rice paper, there is more space for swaying than the plain paper, like clouds descending on the mountains, and there are more undulating contact surfaces. In addition to the ink halo and whiteness, it also has a rich layering.

6. What does art mean to you?

Art is basically a self-revolution towards a boundless future, towards a new, beautiful and good perfect end. But this process means troubles, which are like wrinkles, which are knotted, tight, and introspective, but when the inspiration strikes, the wrinkles will instantly relax and become advancing, surprising, and brand new hope.

7. What’s the most valuable piece of art to you?

The most valuable artwork for me is the creation of timeless classics.I have hoped throughout my life that my work can hold a solo exhibition in Basel, enter the Sotheby's auction, and eventually be collected by world-renowned art museums. This is the most valuable work of art.

8. What’s next for you in the future?

From 2010 to 2020, I am a cross-border artist who tries different media. 2021-2030 may focus on painting, calligraphy and installation creation, and 2031-2040 will only focus on one medium that I am good at and can represent my style.
