1. What’s your background?
BIOGRAFY
Maria Teresa Guala was born in Turin in 1947, her father was a painter and advertiser (he got the contract of Italia 61, TO Esposizioni). Coming from an important family of artist of Monferrato. She studied at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts of Turin in the '60 with the lead of Prof. Scroppo. At the same time she studied languages and has worked as translator. Because of work and family problems she has interrupted her activity for a long time. Resumed in 2000 with a solo exhibition at "Micrò Galery" of Turin and at "Promotrice of Fine Arts" in Turin 2001. She participated to several exhibitions in Europe and Russia receiving different awards. She collaborates with "MIT Museum of Turin" where she spent two months in Chicago (Zhoo Center). In summer 2017 she participated to "Triennale of Rome", she has collaborated with some galleries in the United States winning a contest whit Artavita Santa Barbara to participate in the Art Basel. She was also contacted by VIDA, a fashion house at San Francisco as designer. On November 18, 2017 she inaugurated solo at Palazzo Ducale Genova. Shibuya Station Exhibition 05-11 March 2019. Tokyo. Art in America Annual Guide will be delivered to all elite art museums and galleries, including the Metropolitan Museum, Guggenheim and MoMA. 2. What does your work aim to say?
Owing to my complicate personality, my works aid me to go out depression, mainly with strong colours.
3. How does your work comment on current social or political issues?
I participate not much to political events, in my country there is at the moment a great confusion. Owing to Covid situation too. I am democratic and I hope my country goes out this situation as soon as possible even for world general situation. Me too I am tired of bla, bla, bla without reaching a solution.
4. Who are your biggest influences?
I am attracted by animal kingdom associated to my mood, I read many design magazines and art books.
5. How has your art evolved over the years?
At Accademia Albertina made only nudes drawings, afterwards my style changed and devoted myself to neoexpressionist (German school) as important painters of “Die Brucke”
6. What does art mean to you?
My art wants to show that seeing a world with colours is positive.
7. What’s the most valuable piece of art to you?
In 2010 I made a work “INCANTO” exhibited in Lago Maggiore and sold to important collector.
8. What’s next for you in the future?
I hope as already said in a world ecologically well-developed, fortunately young people are trying a solution
