Growing up in a wartorn Venezuela, Porras M. isno stranger to pain andsuffering. But as an artist, he tries to look to the brighter side of life. Bright patches of yellow, red, and blue, demonstrate to him the desire of strength as well as the hope of a brighter tomorrow. His paintings travel with him through a maze of
individual marks separated by a solid color found in the background. These marks contribute to the real meaning of unity, similar to humanity coming together during and after tragedy. Joyous and contemplative, the work of Porras M. shows us the power of perseverance and the miracles of bringing people together
AN ARTIST DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC These unprecedented times have given me the chance to share time with my family, most importantly my father. Although we have recently experienced hardships, like many others, this has made me appreciate life even more, my father continues his battle with cancer and receives treatment on a weekly basis. Good things. always come out of bad situations. My art and my time with my family during these difficult times has been one of the biggest gifts.
The reality in Venezuela has become more critical, not only are we facing severe political and economic crisis, now we are undergoing an intense humanitarian crisis that has collapse even further our corrupt and weak health system. Hospitals are facing deplorable conditions; health workers are not receiving minimum wage. Despite
the horrific circumstances our first responders in Venezuela are also heroes, every day they help save those who are sick and dying. COVID has brought us together. These are extremely hard times that many of us never thought or imagined. How many people have been separated from their loved ones so that safety. Our heroes have shown more resilience than ever, they are selfless, and they go above and beyond. Each hero has a life, a family and reason to live just like us. We need to acknowledge, appreciate and thank them, I do every day. Doctors, nurses, first responders, these are the people that have put their lives and their family on hold to be able to help us.
Janitors at hospitals, management/administrative team within the hospitals, pharmacists, all of them are also first responders. Our only job is to act fittingly and respectfully with others by wearing our masks and expressing kindness. Every story heard during this pandemic is unique, real, touching, but above all, resilient.
I have been inspired by many people throughout the past few months. This collection of paintings I have been working on, will be dedicated to honor not only the fighters but also those who have fallen. I know I can help others through my art If any other artist or gallery is interested to join me in the cause, they are welcomed by joining hands, we can all accomplish great things.
