"Georgia O’Keeffe managed to achieve a milestone by bringing our attention to the beautiful and sensual forms of flowers, by representing them in an abstracted way. Today I hope my floral paintings can take us a milestone further, by bringing our attention to the emotional registry of our mind and bodies; by going through the essence of a flower one transcends the physical appearance of that flower, and is in a protected and sacred space of beauty to discern social realities.
If I can pass on knowledge through the symbolism of flowers, I am happy to be speaking to my audience with the gentle language of flowers, for my eyes have seen enough of violence.
Florescencism is a philosophy of flowering based on human nature, with a floral language in painting. It is my humble contribution both to the artistic world, and to the field of international relations."- Lida Sherafatmand
Lida Sherafatmand was born in Iran in 1977. She had her first vision at the age of 3 when her birth city Khorramshahr got destroyed in bombardments of Iran-Iraq war. She drew that vision on paper in order to create an alternative reality with the sun singing, flowers and angels dancing. Today her paintings have matured into a distinct style but still carry those elements as a call for peace. Lida is also a poet, and post-graduate in International Relations and has written essays and books. She lectures often at academic institutes on the social science research behind her art.
