Maurizio D'Andrea
The Painter and His Quest of Impossible Horizons
The artist embraces various painting techniques: from oil painting to the creation of artwork by the process of digital painting, and experiments with different materials so as to develop other techniques including matter painting, new visual elements emphasising physical painting by acrylic and unusual materials leading to the energetic outbreak of instinctive feelings.
In these different forms of expression there is a common thread, the fil rouge representing motion that at times may seem a static confined depiction and at other times it is unrestrained and dominant being not confined to physical motion as it extends its boundaries to express feelings, sensations, emotions and scraps of life. The colour combination: a rich black gives force to red, warm colours near cool, intimate colours are like hidden tones, a space within ourselves.
The theme of escape is a recurrent feature and often assumes the form of the circle, a coloured circle depicted top right, meaning the artist’s quest of a solution, a new way to go down the road and reach a novel horizon, maybe impossible horizons.
