"Exotic garden" For my new series of paintings, David Hockney and his recent English landscape paintings, their colours and approach, have been an inspiration to me.
Three years ago I moved my studio to the south of France. The flora of the Mediterranean became my main motive. The light and explosive vegetation here are magnificent. I have been in many gardens and up in the mountains around and taken photos I have wanted to interpret.
I have then processed them in the computer. The ensuing paintings are impressionistic in style, done with palette knife in oil on paper, which in turn are pasted on canvas. Finally, I varnish the canvases with resin. Together, the paintings constitute a variation around one and the same motif image where I want to travel into the inner essence of exotic flora.
